This short, relaxing visualisation can be used with individuals or groups aged 5 and older. It is aimed at giving you quality, quiet relaxation time while stimulating your imagination so that you will feel calmer, more content and hopefully happier within yourself. It uses the metaphor of a full moon, with the image of gentle white moonlight combined with breath to fill your whole body and being.

The visualisation allows time for calm, quiet reflection on who you are and what is happening in your life right now, in order to connect you with your source of wisdom and imagine a positive version of yourself – so as well as being relaxing, it can create a more positive life outcome. This is particularly helpful for girls and women as the moon is considered a feminine presence in ancient cultures.

Creative visualisation is enormously useful in helping you create stillness and quiet in your life, which:

  • Reduces stress and over-loaded nervous systems
  • Stimulates imagination and creativity
  • Enhances immune system
  • Reduces pain
  • Improves emotional balance
  • Builds connectedness with the natural world
  • Improves thinking and decision making
  • Settles group energy in homes, schools and workplaces
  • Builds neuro-pathways that create mental wellbeing
  • Processes grief and loss.

The visualisation ends with relaxing music without voiceover to enable you to enjoy deep calm.

    As a busy mum and teacher I was too busy to slow down and listen to Moonlight Magic. I listened to it one evening 2 weeks ago after Maggie’s talk on creating quiet and calmness in Children’s lives. I now listen to it a minimum of once a day and even after school if I am racing off to Professional development. It leaves me feeling calm and peaceful. Maggie’s voice lends itself to lead you to truly relaxing. I cannot recommend it enough. Every mum needs a little bit of Maggie in their day EVERYDAY!

Hello, and welcome to Moonlight Magic. This is a creative visualisation activity that's aimed at giving you some quality, quiet, relaxation time while stimulating your wonderful imagination so that you may feel calmer, more content, and hopefully happier within yourself. And now to begin. Make yourself comfortable. A pillow, of course, is very, very important. You may sit down or lie down. You may also choose to cover yourself.

Now to begin with three long, slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Now, I want you take another deep breath inwards to a very slow count of four and lift your shoulders up as you breathe in. Then, breathe out very long and slow, letting your shoulders drop down softly as you exhale. Let's do that one again. Big breath in slowly to the count of four, shoulders up. Then, very slowly out, the shoulders dropping, once again, to the count of four. On this last really deep breath, I want you to imagine that you can breathe in through the soles of your feet as well as your nose. Off you go.

By now, your body should be feeling really relaxed. I want you now to imagine that close beside you is either a rubbish bin or a basket, one that we could use as your worry basket. So, take a few quiet moments and imagine taking worries off your shoulders, or possibly the top of your head, and putting them in your worry basket. You can see them as whatever shape or size that feels right for you. Go on. Quietly offload those worries, those fears, and those doubts, one after another and put them into your worry basket.

Now, take one more deep breath and breathe out like a sigh. We're going to imagine, and then imagine some more. So, begin with imagining that there's a beautiful full moon just above your head, and that its gentle white moonlight is flowing down upon you and entering the very top of your head very softly and very gently. This beautiful white healing energy flows through the whole of your head, into your brains, back of your eyes, your nose, down your throat, into your shoulders, and very slowly down your arms to your elbows, into your hands, and finally down to your fingertips.

Then, this beautiful moonlight will flow gently down into your chest, filling up every single bit of space inside your ribcage. Take a big breath, and breathe the gentle white light into the lungs. And very importantly, surround your heart with this white energy, beautiful moonlight, and allow it to feel safe. Then, let your heart fill with that pure, pure, white moonlight. Then, another breath inward and bring them moonlight right down into your stomach, and then very slowly down your legs to your knees, down to your feet, and then all the way down to your toes.

For some of you, you may even be aware of sensations as this beautiful moonlight flows through your body. For others, you will just be feeling that you're imagining it. Either way, it is perfect for you. When the whole of the inside of your body feels full of this magical moonlight, I want you to allow it to then flow over the outside of your body, very gently like a soft waterfall over your face and your neck, shoulders and arms, down over the chest and the stomach, and down the legs once again towards the feet. Then, very aware of simply being still, surrounded by a sense of calmness, deep quietness, and the feeling of feeling safe and very secure.

You may be aware of your breath slowing a little and being a little more gentle. From this place of inner quiet you can ponder and reflect, and just simply think about who you are, where you are, and what's happening in your life right now without any interruptions from anyone. From this place of inner quiet is the source of your own wisdom about who you are and what you may become. Spend just a few moments seeing yourself in an improved way, in an even more positive way. Do it really kindly and gently, and allow your imagination to take you to the most positive version of who you are or could be.

Then finally, from this place of wisdom and beautiful white moonlight, I want you to imagine that you could send a ray of this beautiful moonlight out to our world, out to places in our world that are troubled so that we may bring more harmony and peace to our world. May you also send some rays of this beautiful moonlight to anyone who worries you, who is unwell, maybe somebody who is unkind to you. Then, very finely, send a ray of that beautiful white light to everyone who does care for you, who does love you, and who does really appreciate who you are. One by one, send them a ray of beautiful white light.

It is now time to get ready to bring yourself back from your imaginary world back into the real world, into this present time. Before you do, glance around and remember the beauty, the peaceful energy, and the sense of freedom that you have just enjoyed so that you can return to that special place anytime that you choose. Take two deep breaths, bringing oxygen back down into the body. Then another deep breath and slowly start to wiggle toes in your shoes, maybe your fingers. Then just as though you've just woken up from a deep sleep, stretch, and roll, and breathe. I ask you to bring back with you a sense of calmness, wellbeing, and most importantly, a sense of being valued and a special part of our world. Come back gently, quietly. All is well.
