The digital juggernaut has seen a tsunami of screens flooding onto the landscape of childhood and adolescence. It is hard to believe that it was only 2010 when Steve Jobs launched the iPad. Never before have parents and teachers been confronted with such a sweeping, massive change in human behaviour, and influence on our children.
I write about how and why parents need to be mindful of technology in most of my books. And below on this page are a host of resources that touch on this issue and which will hopefully support you to find balance in your home. I have some very useful online masterclasses that will be helpful too, including:
- Plugged In and Tuned Out masterclass with Brad Marshall
- The Digital Life of Kids with Claire Orange
- Teens on Tech with Dr Kristy Goodwin
And please check out these key resources for online safety and other information about our kids’ digital lives.
- Ctrl+Shft – online safety coalition between Maggie Dent, Kirra Pendergast (founder of Safe on Social), Brad Marshall and Madeleine West
- eSafety Commissioner – Australia’s independent regulator for online safety. Excellent resources.
- The Unplugged Psychologist — Brad Marshall (one of my colleagues in Ctrl+Shft).
- Digii Social
- Yas London
- SOS Surf on Line Safe
- The Australian Federal Police’s Think U Know resources
- Dr Kristy Goodwin
