Maggie is concerned that we develop the emotional and social competencies of our children so that they can be resilient later in life.
The seminars she runs for parent groups are:
Adolescence Unplugged: Supporting the Bumpy Ride to Adulthood (Parents and Community Members)
From Maggie’s extensive experience of working with adolescents for over more than thirty years she has created an innovative, dynamic seminar for families, schools and communities to build resilience and connectedness for 12-25 year olds. Adolescents need adult allies to help them navigate the tricky waters of the teenage years – the art of guiding, encouraging empowerment while strengthening self esteem and personal autonomy is one that can be learned. This seminar explores the shift in raising children to raising adolescents, and what works and what won’t. (2 hours)
Real Kids in an Unreal World: Building Resilience and Self Esteem in Today’s Children
(
10 Resilience building blocks)
Children need many essential experiences to build the competencies that will help them manage life – the good, the bad and the ugly. This common sense, practical model will reassure those who work with children that what they have always known to be important in the early years of a child’s education – are still important! The 10 building blocks model that Maggie has created will resonate with anyone who works with families.
Playful Hearts: How Play Builds the Whole Child
Maggie is a passionate play advocate and in this seminar she explores it like no-one else! You will learn the vital aspects of play that build vital brain connections at the same time as building emotional, social and spiritual competence. She will also demonstrate how imaginary play can help children to heal from loss and hurt. Play is serious business and allowing children to play in many different forms will enable the well being of both children and their carers.
Everyday Learning about Grief and Loss and Children
This seminar explores how to prepare and support children through loss and death. Maggie has an extensive background including palliative care, the funeral industry and counselling and her practical tips will be valuable for anyone who cares for children. How we manage loss will influence us for the rest of our life and when our children are overprotected in childhood they can be left powerless and very traumatised as adults.
The importance of Calmness, Silence and Stillness in Children’s Lives
Teach our children this important and inspirational life resilience skill, how to calm hyperactive children, how to change emotional states and learn the best ways to maximise the brain's capacity to learn in a safe environment. Calmness can be learned! This explores cognitive and emotional benefits and is full of practical tips to get the magic into your homes.
Nurturing Kids' Hearts and Souls-
This seminar will focus on exploring the unspoken dimension of parenting– the nurturing of children’s hearts and souls. Children are struggling with the modern world and this will show you why and what can be done to help parents raise healthy happy kids. Also Maggie will explore EQ, the role of imagination, intuition, play and SQ – and how to strengthen the human spirit in your home.
